ABOUT US FAQ CONTACT

The Asian Lion Dance League (A.L.L.) was conceptualized in 2008. It was named so due to the first event that they held.  The group organized an event in which celebrated the upcoming Chinese New Year with a lion dance competition in Columbus Park, New York City.  When the event was first announced, the organization was able to gain support from the Chinatown community.  As A.L.L. gained more recognition, the group furthered their success with sponsorships by companies abroad, as far away as Hong Kong and mainland China. With much community buzz circulating, ten different lion dance troupes were willing to participate; even some as far as Pennsylvania based troupes competed.  Despite the blistering cold, over 1500 people attended this first event, including both community and political leaders.

The event was so successful that A.L.L. was able to raise $90,000.  As a result, we were able to donate to the victims of the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake.  Also, the money raised enabled A.L.L. to help clean and prepare Chinatown for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.  They were able to partake in donating to these organizations as well: the Asian American Federation, Friends of Columbus Park and Greater Chinatown Community Association.

As we look into the future, we hope to continue to further unite our community as a whole, promote Asian heritage and assist our local businesses and entrepreneurs.
